Retatrutide, tirzepatide and semaglutide: reading studies carefully

Incretin research attracts considerable attention. This makes it especially useful to bring headlines back to the question a study actually asks.

Start with the comparison

SURMOUNT-5 compared tirzepatide and semaglutide in a randomized, open-label trial in adults with obesity without type 2 diabetes. It was published on 11 May 2025. NEJM · 11-05-2025

What study design tells you

Randomization assigns participants to groups through a chance procedure. Open-label means the treatment is not concealed from participants and investigators. When assessing a paper, also consider the predefined outcome, study duration and withdrawals. A statement about one outcome is not a statement about every possible outcome.

A recent update and its source status

On 23 July 2026, Lilly reported preliminary phase 3 retatrutide results from TRIUMPH-2 and TRIUMPH-3. This is a sponsor announcement. Lilly · 23-07-2026

Treat preliminary results as preliminary

A sponsor announcement is a primary source for what the developer reports. A full scientific assessment also requires methods, tables, uncertainty and the final publication. Record the date, source type, population and unresolved questions separately.

From literature to a research record

Molecular literature and specific batch documentation answer different questions. A clinical paper does not establish the identity, purity or quality of an arbitrary online product. For laboratory work, record both the scientific context and the product and batch identity.

Explore the metabolic research collection for product information and the CoA page for available batch documents. This page provides no administration, injection or dosing advice.
